Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 6 cups apples (about 6 medium apples), peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed (or use coconut oil for a dairy-free option)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
    • Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Make the Crisp Topping:
    • In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • Add the cold butter and use a fork or pastry cutter to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Assemble:
    • Evenly sprinkle the crisp topping over the apple filling.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

This Cinnamon Apple Crisp is a delightful dessert that highlights the flavors of fall. Enjoy!
