Savory Ground Pork and Cabbage Stir-Fry Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (or 1 tsp ground ginger)
  • 4 cups cabbage, thinly sliced (green or napa cabbage works well)
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned or grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for extra umami flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Cook the Ground Pork:

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ground pork and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Remove the cooked pork from the pan and set it aside.

2. Sauté Aromatics:

  • In the same pan, add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • Add the garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

3. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:

  • Add the sliced cabbage and grated carrot to the pan. Stir-fry for about 5-7 minutes, until the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
  • If the cabbage starts to stick to the pan, you can add a splash of water or a bit more oil to help it cook evenly.

4. Add Seasonings and Pork:

  • Once the cabbage and carrots are cooked, return the browned ground pork to the pan.
  • Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir well to combine, cooking for another 2-3 minutes so the flavors meld together.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with more soy sauce, salt, or pepper if needed. If you want some heat, sprinkle in the red pepper flakes.

5. Garnish and Serve:

  • Transfer the stir-fry to serving plates. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
  • Serve hot, and enjoy on its own or with a side of steamed rice or noodles.
