Here’s a simple and flavorful recipe for Wonton Soup that you can easily make at home!

Wonton Soup

Ingredients:

For the Wontons:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground pork or chicken
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 package wonton wrappers (about 50)

For the Soup:

  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cups bok choy or spinach, chopped
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Wontons:
    • In a bowl, combine the ground meat, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Mix well.
    • Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold in half to form a triangle, and press to seal. Then bring the two corners together and pinch to seal again. Repeat with the remaining wrappers.
  2. Prepare the Soup:
    • In a large pot, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced ginger, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
    • Add the broth, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Cook the Wontons:
    • Gently add the wontons to the simmering broth. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through.
  4. Add Greens:
    • Stir in the chopped bok choy or spinach and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until wilted.
  5. Serve:
    • Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with sliced green onions and cilantro if desired.
