Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pan:

  • Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil, leaving an overhang to easily lift the fudge out once it has set.
  • Lightly grease the paper or foil with butter or cooking spray.

2. Melt the Chocolate:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the semisweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter over medium-low heat.
  • Stir constantly until the chocolate and butter have completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

3. Add Flavorings:

  • Once the mixture is smooth, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. This helps enhance the chocolate flavor.

4. Add Optional Mix-ins:

  • If you want to add nuts, fold in the chopped nuts at this point for some extra texture and crunch.

5. Pour the Fudge Mixture:

  • Pour the melted chocolate fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Use a spatula to spread it evenly, smoothing the top.

6. Chill the Fudge:

  • Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2 hours, or until it is fully set and firm to the touch.

7. Finish with Toppings (Optional):

  • Once set, sprinkle mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings over the top for an extra touch of chocolate goodness.

8. Cut and Serve:

  • Use the parchment paper or foil overhang to lift the fudge out of the pan.
  • Cut into squares (about 16 or more, depending on the size you want).
